Eine Flagge ist überall auf der Welt das Symbol eines Landes. Sie repräsentiert das Land zum Beispiel in der Politik oder in Sportevents. Jedes Land hat seine eigene Flaggengeschichte. Nächstes Jahr könnte ein neuer Teil der neuseeländischen Flaggengeschichte geschrieben werden. Es gibt einige Gründe, wieso John Key, der Primer Minister die Flagge ändern möchte. Erstens würde es ein Symbol der Unabhängigkeit sein, da nicht mehr das Symbol der Union-Jack auf der Flagge sein würde. Das würde zeigen, dass sich die Zeiten geändert haben. Ein zweiter Grund ist, dass die neuseeländische Flagge oft mit anderen Flaggen, vor allem mit der australischen, verwechselt wird, da sie sich sehr ähnlich sind. Ein weiterer Aspekt ist die emotionale Verbindung. Viele Leute sind der Meinung, dass die emotionale Verbindung zu der All Blacks Flagge, mit dem Silver Fern, größer ist als zur Nationalflagge. Deswegen denken manche Kiwies, dass eine Flagge mit dem Silver Fern besser zu Neuseeland passen würde.

The flag is a symbol of the nation and part of every country all over the world. The flag represents the country for example in the politic or at sports events. Every country has its own flag history and maybe a new part of the New Zealand flag history is written next year. There are some reasons why John Key the prime minister wants to change the flag. First it would be a symbol of independence. In a new flag the symbol of the Union-Jack wouldn't be included anymore and this would show that the time has change. In addition the New Zealand flag is confused with flags of other countries, especially Australia. They are very similar to each other. Another point is the emotional connection. A lot of people say that the emotional connection to the All Blacks flag with the Silver Fern is much bigger than the connection to the national flag. That's why some people think a flag with a Silver Fern would fit better to New Zealand.

Trotzdem möchten viele Leute keine neue Flagge haben. Die derzeitige Flagge ist ein Teil der neuseeländischen Geschichte und zusätzlich dazu würde eine Änderung mit großen Kosten verbunden sein. Viele Leute denken, dass man das Geld sinnvoller einsetzten kann.

But a lof of people don't want to get a new flag. The current flag is a part of the New Zealand history and a new flag would be connectet with a high costs. Some people think the government could spent the money for a better thing. 

Dennoch gibt es fünf verschiedene Flaggenvorschläge. Auf drei von ihnen ist der Silver Fern und die vier Sterne drauf. Auf einer Anderen ist eine Spirale "Koru", die neues Leben, Wachstum, Stärke und Frieden symbolisiert. Das Red Peak Design soll die Elemente (Land, Licht und Position) in einer einfachen Form darstellen.

Die Abstimmung findet in zwei Referendums statt. Im ersten soll man die fünf alternativ Flaggen in eine Reihenfolge bringen. Das Voting findet zwischen dem 20 November und 11 Dezember 2015 statt. Zwischen dem 3 und 24 März wird zwischen der jetzigen Flagge und der beliebtesten alternativ Flagge abgestimmt. Viele Leute verstehen nicht, wieso es nicht erst eine Abstimmung gibt, ob man überhaupt eine neue Flagge will anstatt so viel Geld auszugeben, um eine alternativ Flagge zu finden. 

Wir haben auch in Social Studies über die Flaggendebatte geredet und eine Schülerin meinte, das nur Erwachsene wählen können, aber das eine Änderung der Flagge zum Beispiel ältere Menschen, die wählen dürfen, nicht so sehr betrifft, wie zum Beispiel die Jugendlichen, die ihr ganzes Leben mit der Entscheidung der Erwachsenen leben müssen. Deswegen sollte man überlegen, wer alles wählen darf. 

Alles in allem bin ich sehr gespannt, wie die Kiwies entscheiden werden. Ich habe schon von ein paar Leuten gehört, dass sie das unbeliebteste Design wählen wollen, damit dieses dann im zweitem Referendum gegen die jetzige Flagge verliert.

Nevertheless there are five different suggestions for a new flag. On tree of them is the Silver Fern and the four stars. At the other flag is a loop "Koru" which symbolize new life, grouth, strength and peace. The Red Peak design should show the elements (land, light an position) in a simple form.

The voting takes place in two referendums. In the first one you should rank the five flag alternatives, this takes place from the 20 of November till the 11 of December 2015. Than between the 3 and the 24 March one have to choose between the current flag and the suggestion with the most votes of the first referendum.

A lot of people don't understand why there is no vote first where they are ask if they want a new flag in general instead of spending so much money to finde an alternative when they don't know yet if the people want a new flag.

We had the flag debate in Social Studies as well and one girl said that only adults are allowed to vote but for example a change of the flag will not effect very old people who can vote very much but the youth who has to live their whole life with the decision of the adults and they can't vote. So it should be a question who can vote.

All in all im very excited how the Kiwis decide. I already heard of some people who want the current flag to stay the stragetie that they want to vote for the most out-of-favor design that this one comes to the secound referendum and loses there against the current flag.
