Nachdem wir ein paar Tage zu Hause waren, Zeit mit Amelia und Harry  und im Schulpool verbracht haben, war es Zeit wieder los zugehen. Wir sind zum Lichterfest nach New Plymouth gefahren. Am Abend, nachdem wir wir shoppen waren und ein bisschen Zeit am Strand verbracht hatten, sind wir zum Pukekura Park gefahren. Wir hatten den Park bei unserem ersten Besuch in New Plymouth schon angeschaut, aber dieses mal sah er noch schöner aus. Wenn ich über das Lichterfest in Stuttgart nachdenke, dort gibt es viele Essensstände und nur sehr wenige Leute bringen ihr eigenes Picknick. Das ist in Neuseeland nicht der Fall. Dort wurde man auf der Website aufgefordert sein eigenes Picknick mitzubringen und es gab nur einen Essensstand in ganzen Park. Deswegen haben wir noch haben wir uns noch etwas zum Essen geholt (ich hatte einen leckeren Kebab und Pommes) und sind dann zum Park gefahren. Am Anfang des Parks war eine Bühne aufgebaut, auf der ein Sänger-Songwriter Contest und eine Tanzvorführung stattgefunden hat. Wir haben also Musik gehört, bis es dunkel war. Dann haben wir die Lichter im Park angeschaut, die toll aussahen. Die Lichter waren im Park verteilt, ein paar in Seen, in Bäumen, an einem Wasserfall und auf der roten Brücke. Die Brücke sah toll aus, über ihr hingen Diskokugeln, in denen die Lichter nochmal reflektiert  wurden.

After we were home for a few days, spent some time with Amelia and Harry and enjoyed the school pool, it was time to go again. We drove up to New Plymouth to go to the "Festival of Lights". In the evening after some shopping and swimming in the sea we went to the Pukekura Park. We already visited the park when we were in New Plymouth the first time but this time it was even nicer. When I think about the festival of lights in Stuttgart there such a big food court and nearly no one brings their own food. That's different in New Zealand. On the website is written that you should bring your own picnic and there was only one food stand in the whole park. So we picked up some takeaway (I had a delicious kebab and fries)  and went to the park. At the beginning of the park was a stage where they did a "Singer-Songwriter Contest" and a dancing school did a small show act. So we had dinner, listened to music till it was dark. Then we took a look at the lights which looked beautiful. They were sprayed around the park at some lakes, in trees, at a small waterfall and at the red bridge. The bridge looked amazing. There were disco balls hanging over the bridge which reflected the lights again. 

Am nächsten Tag wollten wir die "Drei Schwestern und den Elefantenfelsen" anschauen. Das sind schöne Felsformationen, die nur bei Ebbe erreichbar sind. Allerdings war noch Flut, als wir in Tongaporutu angekommen sind und so mussten wir noch warten, bis das Wasser verschwunden ist. Nachdem wir eine Weile gewartet hatten, sind wir durch niedriges Wasser bis zu den drei Schwestern gelaufen. Es war nur ein kurzer Weg um die Ecke bis man die drei Schwestern seen konnte. Die drei Schwestern sahen schön aus und der Elefantenfelsen auch, vor allem mit der Wasserspiegelung auf dem Boden. An den Klippen und in kleinen Höhlen konnte man sehen, wie hoch das Wasser stand und das man keine Chance hätte, wenn einen das Wasser überrascht.

On the next day I wanted to see the "Tree Sisters and the Elephant Rock". They are some beautiful rock formations which you can only see when it is low tide. When we arrived in Tongaporutu it was still high tide and so we had to wait till more of the water is gone. We waited a while till we decided to give it a try and to walk trough the low water to the tree sisters. It was just a short walk and then around the corner were the tree sisters which looked really nice. Behind them was the Elephant Rock which really looked like an elephant and with the reflection on the ground very beautiful. At the stone cliffs and in some small caves one could see how high the water was and you would have no chance to safe yourself somewhere when the water surprises you.

Heiße Quellen, Schlamm und komische Gerüche - das ist Rotorua. Rotorua liegt an dem vulkanischen Plateau und weist eine hohe geothermische Aktivität auf. Es gibt dort viele geothermische Parks mit Geysire, blubbernden Schlammlöchern und bunt gefärbte Seen. Leider hat es bei uns die ganze Zeit geregnet und wir waren auch nicht wirklich Begeistert von dem gewöhnungsbedürftigen Gestank. So haben wir nur einen kleinen Park im Stadtzentrum angeschaut und sind dann ins Kino gegangen. Der Film (The fifth wave), war richtig gut.

Hot pools, mud and bizarre smells - that is Rotorua. Rotorua is on the volcanic plateau and has a very high geothermal activity. There are a lot of geothermal parks with geysers, bubbling mud holes and colorful lakes. Sadly the weather wasn't good when we were there and we weren't really happy with the kind of disgusting smell. That's why we only went to a small park in the center of the town and then we went in to the cinema. The film (The fifth wave) was really good.

In Gisborn haben wir einen Wasserfall angeschaut, unter dem man durch laufen konnte und eine natürliche Steinrutsche. Die Rutsche konnte man mit Bodyboards herunter rutschen, das sehr viel Spaß gemacht hat.

In Gisborn we went to a waterfall where you can walk under it and to a natural slight. One could slight it down with body boards which was a lot of fun. 

Das East Cape ist der wohl einer der einsamsten Orte in Neuseeland. Fast keine Touristen und einsame Strände das findet man am East Cape. Unser Ziel war es, den Sonnenaufgang am East Cape anzuschauen. Zuerst ging es aber zur einzigen Tankstelle, die uns vor dem Stehenbleiben gerettet hat. Der einzige Supermarkt hatte allerdings schon zu und so gab es Nudeln ohne Soße. Danach ging es auf der Schotterstraße vorbei an Pferden und freilaufenden Kühen bis zum Campingplatz. Am nächsten morgen ging es um 4:30 los bis zum Leuchtturm und dann noch 700 Stufen hoch, um den ersten Sonnenaufgang des Tages anzuschauen. Der Sonnenaufgang sah sehr schön aus.

The East Cape is one of the emptiest places I have ever been in New Zealand. Nearly no tourists and lonely beaches that is what you find at the East Cape. But first we went to the only petrol station which saved us from pushing the car. The only supermarket was already closed and so we had pasta without a sauce. Then we went on the gravel road, passing horses and free walking cows till we got to the campsite. On the next morning we got up at 4:30 to get to the lighthouse for the sunrise. When we arrived there we had to get up 700 stairs to see the first sunrise of the day. The sunset looked very nice.  

Hello Frodo,

I really miss the time we went on an adventure together. It just seems so long ago when I saw you the last time. But anyway I have to tell you about the two Hobbits which came to visit our Shire. They are called Conny and Marie and they are a way taller than we are but that doesn't matter. They arrived in a big green vehicle which they called bus. I showed them around in our small village and told them about all our adventures and parties. We started the tour at some small hobbit holes of our neighbors and Conny and Marie were amused about the small furniture and doors. They said everything looks so cute. Then I showed them our beautiful garden with the pumpkins and after that we went to your old hobbit hole. Both of them liked the sign "No admittance except on party business". You and Bilbo spent so much time there and now everyone knows your hole because we saved our little town. Conny and Marie told me that someone even made a film about our story and we are all in it, you, Bilbo, Gandalf and all of the others. A film is something like a lot of pictures after each other. I wish we could watch it together. It is called "The Hobbit" or "Lord of the rings". But now back to our visitors. I showed them the pary tree and told them about the food,  the people and the cake. One very funny thing is that the cake actually caught fire in the movie and they just left it in. Another trick in the film was that they filmed the sunset and took the same film material and ran it backwards for the sunrise. So some birds are flying  backwards as well. After I showed them everything I took them to the Green Dragon and we had a drink together. They enjoyed the time in our Shire and I think it was a good morning or as Gandalf used so say when someone said good morning: Do you wish me a good morning weather I want it or not, or that you feel good this morning , or that it is a morning to be good on?

ich vermisse unsere Abenteuer und all die Zeit, die wir zusammen verbracht haben. Mir kommt es so lange vor, als wir uns das letzte Mal gesehen haben. Ich muss die so viel erzählen. Zwei neue Hobbits kamen heute in unser Dorf, sie heißen Conny und Marie. Sie sind viel größer als wir, aber das macht ja nichts. Die Beiden sind in einem großem grünen Fahrzeug angekommen und sie nennen es einen 'Bus'. Ich habe ihnen unser Dorf gezeigt und alles über unsere Abenteuer und Partys erzählt. Wir haben unsere Tour bei den kleinen Hobbit-Holes von unseren Nachbarn angefangen. Conny und Marie fanden die kleinen Türen und Möbel sehr lustig uns süß. Ich habe Beiden auch unseren Garten, mit den Kürbisen und den anderen Pflanzen, gezeigt. Danach sind wir zu deinem alten Hobbit-Hole gegangen. Die Beiden mochten das Schild: "No admittance except on party business" sehr gerne. Bilbo und du haben so viel Zeit dort verbracht und jetzt kennt jeder dein Haus, weil wir unser kleines Dorf gerettet haben. Conny und Marie haben mir erzählt, dass sogar ein Film über unser Abenteuer gedreht wurde und wir sind alle in dem Film: du, Bilbo, Gandalf und all die Anderen. Ein Film ist eine schnelle Bilderfolge. Ich wünschte wir könnten ihn zusammen anschauen. Er heißt "Der Hobbit" und "Herr der Ringe"- Aber jetzt zurück zu unserem Besuch. Ich habe ihnen unseren Partybaum gezeigt, von dem Essen, den Leuten und dem Kuchen erzählt. In dem Film, der gedreht wurde, hat der Kuchen feuer gefangen und sie haben das einfach im Film gelassen. Ein anderer Trick war, dass nur der Sonnenuntergang gefilmt wurde und einfach rückwärts abgespielt. So fliegen, wenn man hinschaut, ein paar Vögel rückwärts. Nachdem ich ihnen alles gezeigt habe, sind wir zum Green Dragon gegangen und haben dort etwas getrunken. Die Beiden mochten unser Auenland sehr gerne und ich denke es war ein guter Morgen oder wie Gandalf immer gesagt hat: Wünschen Sie mir einen Guten Morgen, oder meinen Sie, dass es ein schöner Morgen ist, egal, was wir wünschen oder dass sei an diesem Morgen alles schön und gut finden, oder dass man an diesem Morgen schön oder gut sein muss?

Ich vermisse euch beide.

P.s. Meine wunderschöne Frau und meine zwei kleinen Kinder (auch wenn sie jetzt nicht mehr so klein sind) vermissen dich auch und können nicht genug von unseren Abenteuern hören. Sie sind sehr stolz auf uns.

In Matamata gibt es nicht nur Hobbiton, das man anschauen kann, sondern die Wairere Falls. Das ist ein Wasserfall, der 153 Meter noch ist. Wir mussten erstmal zu dem Wasserfall hin laufen, aber der Ausblick hat sich gelohnt und auf den Rückweg haben wir noch eine kurze Schwimmpause gemacht. Danach sind wir wieder zurück in Rebekkas Outdoorcamp und haben dort noch einen schönen Abend verbracht.

In Matamata is not only Hobbiton there are the Wairere Falls as well. It is a waterfall which is 153 m high. First we had to walk to the waterfall but it was worth the view and on the way back we went for a swim. After that we went back to Rebekkas outdoorcamp and spent there a nice evening.

Am nächsten Tag haben wir einen Ausflug zum Mt. Manganui gemacht und haben dort den Berg bestiegen. Die Aussicht war toll. Man konnte die ganze Stadt und den Strand sehen. Zwei Paraglider sind von dort den Berg herunter gegleitet, das sehr schön aussah. Nachdem wir den Berg bestiegen hatten, sind wir noch zum Strand gegangen und haben dort ein bisschen Zeit verbracht.

On the next day we did a trip to Mt Manganui. There we went up the montain. The view from up there was amazing. One could see the whole city and the beach from up there. Two paraglider went down from the Mt. Manganui which looked really beautiful. After the mountain we went to the beach and spent some time swimming and relaxing there.

Ein großes Must Do in Neuseeland und auch ein Wunsch von mir ist es Surfen zu gehen. In Neuseeland ist man von Meer umrandet und die Neuseeländer sind von Wassersport besessen und es gibt einige wunderschöne Strände zum Surfen. Einer der besten Strände für Beginner ist in Reglan. Dort haben Alina und ich eine Surfstunde bei der Reglan Surf School gemacht, die sehr gut ist. Zuerst wurde uns alles an Land erklärt und wir haben unseren Move geübt. Wir waren nur zu dritt in der Surfstunde und der Surflehrer hat sich viel Zeit für uns genommen. Nach einer Weile sind wir mit anderen Surfschülern (die an den Tagen davor sine Surfstunde hatten) zum Strand gefahren. Dort war es Zeit ins Wasser zu gehen, wo uns die Surflehrer weiter geholfen haben. Wir mussten nun nur noch versuchen auf dem Surfbrett zu stehen, kurz stehen zu bleiben bis wir wieder ins Wasser gefallen sind. Das hat so viel Spaß gemacht und es hat sogar geklappt. Zuerst paddelt man, bis die Welle das Ende des Surfbretts trifft und dann versucht man auf zu stehen. Wenn man eine Welle erwischt, steht man in der Surferposition bis man langsam Richtung Strand surft. Das ziemlich lustig aus. Am Ende waren wir erschöpft, aber glücklich. Abends sind wir nochmal zum Ngaruni Beach gefahren, um den Sonnenuntergang anzuschauen. Der Sonnenuntergang sah einfach wunderschön aus. Am nächsten Tag hat auch Conny ihr Glück beim Surfen versucht und wir sind noch einen Tag surfen gegangen. Dieses Mal war das Meer wilder und es war schwieriger auf dem Surfbrett zu stehen, aber es hat trotzdem Spaß gemacht. Am letzten Tag in Reglan erwarteten mich gute Neuigkeiten aus Auckland. Da meine Kamera im Northland kaputt ging habe ich sie zum Panasonic Service Center in Auckland gebracht und habe dann am letzten Tag in Reglan die Nachricht erhalten, dass ich eine neue Kamera bekomme, also die alte ersetzt wird. So sind wir wieder nach Auckland gefahren, um meine neue Kamera abzuholen. Als wir dort ankamen habe ich aber nicht die gleiche Kamera bekommen, sondern ein anderes Modell, was mir Sorgen bereitet hat. Als wir das Modell allerdings gegooglet haben, haben wir gemerkt, dass die neue Kamera besser ist als meine alte und ich war einfach so glücklich wieder eine Kamera zu haben.

A big Must Do of New Zealand and at the same time a wish of me is to go surfing. In New Zealand you are surrounded by the sea and a lot of Kiwis are obsessed with water sports and there a some beautiful beaches to go surfing. One of the best spots for beginners is Reglan. Alina and I did a sufing lesson at the Reglan Surf School which was really good. First we got some instructions on the land and we practiced the move. We were only tree people in the lesson and so they had really time for us. After a short time we went to the beach whith some other surf students which had lessons the days before. Then it was time to go in the water where the instructors kept helping us. Now it was up to us to try to stand up on the board, stand for a short time and fall in the water. It was so much fun and it worked. First we had to paddle till the wave hits the back of the board and you have to try to stand up. If you get the wave you surf to the beach and get slower and slower till you just stand in the surf position which looks quite funny. On the end we were exhausted but happy. In the evening we went back to the Ngaruni Beach to see the sunset. It looked just beautiful. On the next day Conny tried her luck as well and we spent another day surfing. The sea was more rough on this day and it was more challenging to stand on the board but still fun. On our last day I got good news from Auckland. I gave my camera to the Panasonic Service Center because it was broken and they told me on our last day in Reglan that a new camera is waiting for me and that they replace my old one. So we drove back to Auckland to get my new camera. But when we arrived there they didn't gave me the same one and I started to worry about that. But then we started to google the camera and we found out that this one it better than my old one and I was so happy to have a camera back.

Zurück an den Ort, an dem alles begonnen hat - zurück in Auckland. In Auckland haben wir dann wieder Conny getroffen, sind shoppen gegangen und haben Amelia und Harry getroffen (die auch gerade in Auckland waren). Am ersten Abend sind wir zum Mt Eden gefahren, um die Skyline an zu schauen. Ich hab von vielen Leuten gehört, dass sie Auckland nicht mögen, aber ich finde Auckland sieht schön aus mit dem Skytower. Am nächsten Tag sind Conny und ich dann auf den Skytower gegangen. Der Skytower ist 328 Meter hoch und hat mehrere Aussichtsplattformen. Die Hauptplattform ist 186 Meter über der Stadt und das Sky Deck 220 Meter. Die Aussicht von dort ist einfach toll. Man kann die gesamte Stadt und den Hafen überblicken und auch die Inseln vor Auckland sehen. Alles sieht von dort oben so klein aus.

Back where it all started - back in Auckland. In Auckland Alina and I met Conny again and spent some time with shopping, meeting Amelia and Harry (which were there at the same time). On our first evening we went to Mt Eden to see the Skyline at night. A lot of people say that they don't like Auckland but I think it looks nice with the Skytower. On the next day Conny and I went up the Skytower. The Skytower is 328 metres high and has different obervation decks. The Main Observation Level is 186 metres high and the Sky Deck 220 metres. The view from up there is great. You can see the whole city, the habour and the Islands in front of Auckland. And everything seems so small.

Nachdem wir Auckland verlassen hatten, ging es weiter nach Coromandel. Das Wetter war allerdings ziemlich schlecht, sodass wir ins Kino gegangen sind. Dann wurde das Wetter aber wieder besser und wir sind zum bekannten Hot Water Bech und zur Cathedral Cove gefahren. An ein paar Stellen auf dem Hot Water Beach ist dass Wasser sehr heiß. Das liegt daran, dass nur 2 km unter der Erdoberfläche eine 170°C heiße Gesteinsschicht ist. Am Strand kann man sich ein Loch graben und ein heißes Bad nehmen. Das klingt einfacher, als es tatsächlich ist, da man nur in bestimmten Abschnitten heißes Wasser hat, das aber nicht zu heiß ist. Es hat einige Zeit in Anspruch genommen, bis wir das herausgefunden hatten und am Ende haben wir einfach ein Loch genommen, das schon jemand anderes gegraben hatte. Es war schwierig eine geeignete Stelle zu finden und dort waren auch sehr viele Leute, so dass ich mich etwas wie auf Mallorca gefühlt hatte. Die Cathedral Cove hat mir besser gefallen. Dort waren zwar auch einige Leute, aber die Höhle sieht einfach wunderschön aus. Wir haben unser Auto in der kleinen Stadt geparkt und mussten dann noch ungefähr 1 Stunde un 15 Minuten zur Cathedral Cove laufen. Es ist möglich einen Bus zum oberen Parkplatz zu nehmen oder zu versuchen einen Parkplatz zu bekommen (dieser ist aber meistens voll). Die Cathedral Cove ist sehr schön, sie besteht auch einer Höhle, hinter der ein Felsbrocken steht und den man durch die Höhle sehen kann. Ein Teil des Filmes die Chroniken von Narnia wurde bei der Cathedral Cove gefilmt (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUlVUvffXwk). Das sieht in dem Film toll aus jetzt konnte ich das mit meinen eigenen Augen sehen.

After we left Auckland we drove to the Coromandel Peninsula. The weather there was pretty bad at the beginning to we just went to the cinema. But then the weather got better and we went to the famous Hot Water Beach and Cathedral Cove. At some parts of the hot water beach is the water really hot because 2 km under the earth's surface is a 170 °C hot rock bed. On the beach you can digg a hole and have a warm bath. That sounds easier than it was it is just a small space where you can get hot water and were you don't get too hot water. It took us some time to figure that out and at the end we just took a hole fom some one else because we couldn't find the perfect spot and there were so many people that it felt like beeing in Mallorca. I liked Cathedral Cove more. There were a lot of people as well but the Cove is just beautiful. We parked our car in the little town and walked all the way ( about 1hour and 15 minutes) to Cathedral Cove. It is possible to take a bus to the upper car park or to try to get a parking spot there but the car park it often full. The Cathedral Cove itself looked very beautiful, it is a cove and behinde the cove is another big stone which you can see trough the cove. A small part of the movie Chronicles of Narnia was filmed in the Cathedral Cove (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUlVUvffXwk) which looks so amazing in the movie and now I could see it with my own eyes.
