Cape Reinga

Der nordwestlichste Punkt Neuseelands ist das Cape Reinga. Dort trifft der Pazifische Ozean und der Tasmansee aufeinander. Einer Maori Legende nach reisen die Toten zum Cape Reinga, um in die Unterwelt zu gelangen. Das Cape Reinga sieht sehr schön aus. Dort steht ein Leuchtturm und davor ein Schild mit den Entfernungen zu verschiedenen Orten. Unser Campingplatz, war ein Doc Camping Platz, fast direkt am Cape Reinga, da wir abends noch den Sonnenuntergang anschauen wollten. Das Wetter wurde allerdings stürmisch, dass es nichts mit dem Sonnenuntergang wurde. Zudem hat auch noch unser Gaskocher den Geist aufgegeben und natürlich hatten wir keine Möglichkeit eine neue Gasflasche zu kaufen. Zum Glück konnten wir uns einen Gaskocher leihen und kamen so noch zu einer Runde Kartenspielen. In der Nacht war es dann so windig, dass wir Angst hatten, dass unser Zelt weg fliegt und waren froh als wir morgens weiter fahren konnten.

The northwestern tip of New Zealand is the Cape Reinga. There the pacific ocean and the Tasmansee meets. A Maori mythology says that the death people travel to the Cape Reinga to get to the underworld. The Cape Reingat itself looks very beautiful. There is a lighthouse with a sign with the destinations to different locations. Our Camping ground was a Doc Camping Ground nearly at the Cape Reinga because we wanted to see the sunset in the evening. Sadly the weather was rough and there was no nice sunset. In addition our gas cooker decided to be empty and we didn't had a possibility to buy a new one. Luckily our tent neighbours had one which we could use and we played cards together. At night it was so windy that we were afraid that our tent would fly away and we were happy when we could leave again in the morning.

Nach dem Cape Reinga ging es weiter zur Bay of Island. Das Wetter hat dort leider nicht mitgespielt und es hat die ganze Zeit geregnet. Wir haben einen dort einen Wasserfall und die Waitangi Treaty Grounds angeschaut. Bei den Treaty Grounds wurde die Unabhängigkeitserklärung Neuseelands unterschrieben. Auf dem Campingplatz wurde uns gesagt, wenn wir eine Stelle finden, an der das Wasser nicht steht, können wir dort campen. Neben uns haben noch zwei andere Deutsche ihr Zelt aufgebaut und wir haben Abends beschlossen zusammen zu Grillen (der kleine Pavillon mit den Grills, war der einzige trockene Platzt). Wir hatten einen schönen Abend und am nächsten Tag sind wir mit der Fähre nach Russel (eine frühere Hauptstadt von Neuseeland) gefahren. Dort war das Wetter zum Glück besser und sind zu einem Aussichtspunkt gewandert. Von dort konnte man die ganze Bucht überblicken, das sehr schön aussah. 

After the Cape Reinga we went to the Bay of Islands. The weather wasn't good the whole time and it was just raining. We just had a look at a waterfall and went to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. In 1835 the New Zealand declaration of Independance was signed there. Because of the rain we tried to find a hostel but they were all full and so we went to a Camping Ground where we got told that we could camp there if we find a spot where we don't swim away. Next to our tent two other Germans built up their tent and we decidet do to a barbecue together (the small pavilion with the barbecues was the only dry spot). We had a nice evening and on the next day we took the ferry to Russel (one of the old capilatls of New Zeland). The weather was better on this side and we hiked to a view point. There one could see the whole bay which looked very beautiful.

Am nächsten Tag ging es für uns Richtung Auckland, aber davor noch auf den Mt. Manaia. Dort haben wir eine zwei Stunden Wanderung auf den Berg gemacht. Von dort oben hatte man einen schönen Ausblick auf die Bucht. Wir hatten schöne Tage im Nordland, aber leider ist meine Kamera kaputt gegangen, worüber ich mich sehr geärgert habe.

On the next day we went in direction to Auckland but first we went up the Mt. Manaia. There we did a two hour hike up the mountain. From up there we had a beautiful view.We had some nice days in the Northland but my camera broke at the end which I was very upset about.
